I absolutely love my job but technically it falls under the ‘retail’ sector and well we all know that means January Sales. It’s our busiest time of year and I feel like I spend all my time at work but this means it’s even more important for me to make some time for myself.
Unfortunately the last couple of weeks that has meant spending most of my evenings on the sofa with a glass of wine in hand. Not exactly what balance means to me but you know what? I’ve needed it! Time for a change now though.
I work minimum 45 hours a week so obviously for me I will never find balance in terms of hours spent, but that’s a common problem, so for me it’s more about how I’m feeling and what makes me happy. I’m so lucky that I enjoy what I do, not everyone has that luxury, but having some time to unwind is key to keeping myself sane.
Exercise is key, ok I’ve not been doing much of that lately but I’ve finally made it back into the pool so thats a start. A quick yoga fix has been my main source of excercise and a bit of meditation is really handy for reducing work related stress so if you’ve never tried it, give it a go!
Also making some ‘me time’ away from my phone, laptop and Netflix is so important. So a night curled up with my mermaid blanket and a cup of tea, reading a book or magazine, while burning my favourite candle is also now much higher on my list of priorities. It something that’s so easy to do and if you only have 15 minutes spare in the evening it’s something that you can easily fit in.
So forget about balance in terms of hours spent cause thats impossible! but instead focus on what makes you happy and the best way to relax and unwind so that you can continue to be the best at your job while treating yourself to some quality R&R.
